Phuket’s beaches are world-renowned and tourists flock from around the world to visit the famous beaches of Patong, Karon and Kata. So much so that many people complain these beaches have lost their charm. They say Phuket can no longer claim to be an idyllic tropical island getaway. The beaches are too crowded. Sun loungers line the entire length of the beaches, sometimes in rows of three or four deep. jet skis, banana boats and parasail boats plow the water as vendors sell their wares up and down the beach. They say that Phuket has ended as a getaway destination on the island and only caters to the multitude of parties.
These people have not spent enough time exploring Phuket. There are 40 beaches on the island of Phuket and there is something for everyone. If you want a beach with facilities good holiday but not too many people then Nai Harn, Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao and Nai Yang all have good hotels and restaurants does not draw large crowds. If you really want to get away from the crowds then Nai Thon and Mai Khao beach, north of the island are usually very quiet.
However, all these beaches are well known in Phuket and firmness in travel guidebooks. In this article we will see some beaches that remain undiscovered to most tourists. We will not Laem Sing or Yanui include in this list. Both are lovely beaches, but have become well known and generally have a lot of visitors. Some of the following beaches are not even aware that many of the residents of Phuket. These are the beaches of Phuket secret.
Banana Beach
This beautiful beach is located in the northern half of Phuket between Bang Tao Beach and Nai Thon Beach. It is a beautiful stretch two to one hundred meters of sand, dotted with rocks in the center, surrounded by trees. It is a beach for swimming and there is some great snorkeling. There is no accommodation and only one restaurants on the beach, only a handful of chairs in the far south.
Usually, only a handful of visitors at this beach. Most of them arriving by boat along other beaches, but in reality, you can see the beach from the coastal road is a road up and down.
Pansea
Just at the northern end of Bang Tao Beach is beautiful and peaceful Pansea Beach. There are two ski resorts in mid reached the place still retains its refreshing tranquility. Near the coast is Kala Island (or Kata Island depending who you believe) that houses the shallow bay from waves so it is always calm. The waters are too shallow for swimming and when the tide is low you can walk to the island. This beach is ideal for paddling and ideal for children to play. No drinks here, so it’s a good idea to bring a picnic.
Pon beach
This small secluded beach is at the northern end of Patong. Locals know it as Nai Yair Beach. It’s amazing how some people find this beach considering it is so close to the hordes at Patong. There is nothing here but a couple of rural huts and a few grazing cows. It is a sandy beach, but not good for swimming due to the rocky seabed. There is some good snorkeling.
There are usually a couple of locals renting chairs and selling refreshments. May also have a small grill to cook your own. There may be a small charge for crossing private land to reach the beach.
Paradise Beach
In the southern headland of Patong, two beautiful beaches remain relatively intact. They are not as unknown as the other beaches mentioned here, but still a break from busy bodies in Patong. The first is Paradise Beach. Just the tip of the headland can be reached by road (track) or boat.
It is a beautiful beach with outstanding trees. No accommodation, but there is a restaurant and there are plenty of hammocks. The beach is not the best for swimming due to the rocky seabed near the coast, but there is some excellent snorkeling. There are usually plenty of people around but it’s still amazing how many people do not know this Patong beach is here.
Freedom beach
Can only be reached by boat impressive. It is at the southern tip of Patong all around and go back to the side of Karon beach. Still worth the boat trip with fantastic bathing and snorkeling.
There are a couple of restaurants and plenty of sun loungers under the trees. The locals take great care of the beach and are always pristine. Many people make this trip a day of Patong, the beach is never crowded and more, it is surprising how many people in Patong do not know this beach is here.
Nui
This beach is known for how hard it is to reach by land. Located between Kata and Nai Harn, the only way to get there by land is a country road a mile that is almost impossible to traverse in a car. You can only do about a motorcycle, but it is better to walk or leave one of the locals will take down your ATV for a small fee.
Also known as the most expensive beach in Phuket, because you have to cross private land to reach it and they charge 250 baht for the privilege. This rate is obtained a hammock and drinking. When they arrive, is a beautiful isolated spot with good swimming and snorkeling. There is a rustic restaurant overlooking the beach but not accommodation. It is never crowded.
This beach is located on the ground, in the north end of Nai Harn Beach. You have to go through parking Le Meridian Phuket Yacht Club to reach it but not stop. There is a restaurant here and some budget bungalows by the beach. Usually, a few people, but never busy. It is actually a series of three small beaches divided by little rocky promontories. None of them is good for swimming due to rocks and corals near the shore. There is some excellent snorkeling.
Laemka
This small beach is on the southern tip of Phuket and Rawai beach between Amistad. It is not signposted and a little hard to find, but a beautiful place. The Evason Resort and a complex of small bungalows are very close, but still remains the quiet beach. It is one of the few southern beaches where you can take a bath and there are good views of the southern islands.
Steeped in Cape Panwa is Ao Yon Beach. This is the best beach on the south side of Phuket. Although it is well developed with residential property, no hotels or restaurants in this beach. It is home to Phuket Yacht Club and there are always plenty of boats moored in the bay.
It is a beautiful stretch of sand and a good bathing beach. Usually very quiet and a real getaway.
